Island's Vibe Publishing Proves the Governance Gap Is Real

A security vendor just built a whole product around your employees' side projects

On August 3, 2026, Island Technology announced Enterprise Vibe Publishing, a new offering described in a release on GlobeNewswire. The pitch: employees who've built their own apps using AI vibe-coding tools like Claude Code, Lovable, or Bolt can publish those apps to a centralized internal library, where they automatically pick up enterprise governance controls -- data loss prevention, clipboard restrictions, content inspection, audit trails, and controlled access to internal systems via Island Private Access.

Island CEO Mike Fey framed the problem plainly in the release: "Building software has never been faster, and every employee is a potential builder. But sharing their innovations safely hasn't caught up." Eric Lowe, an InfoSec Risk Management director at TaskUs quoted in the same release, put it from the buyer's side: Enterprise Vibe Publishing means they can "finally say yes to that creativity."

Why this is a credible signal, not just marketing

It's worth taking this seriously precisely because of who's shipping it. Island isn't a scrappy startup trying to manufacture urgency -- it's an enterprise browser and security company building a dedicated product around a problem it clearly believes is already showing up in its customers' environments. That's a different signal than a vendor claiming a future risk; it's a vendor building infrastructure for a present one.

The release also leans on Gartner forecasts that back up the scale of the shift: 40% of new enterprise software will use vibe coding by 2028, and 90% of enterprise software engineers will use AI code assistants by 2028, up from under 14% in early 2024. And Island cites its own security research finding hundreds of malicious MCP servers already circulating -- a concrete, specific example of the new attack surface that shows up when anyone can spin up an app and wire it into internal systems without a security team ever seeing it. Put together, this is exactly the gap we'd expect: employee-built apps that no one centrally discovers, no one grants or revokes access to, and no one can audit after the fact. That gap is real, and Island deserves credit for naming it and shipping something concrete.

The fix is also the tell

Here's the part worth sitting with. Enterprise Vibe Publishing is a third product, bolted onto a stack that already has at least two others: the AI code generator that built the app in the first place, and whatever hosting environment that app ended up running on before anyone at the company knew it existed. Island's product exists to retroactively apply governance to output that was never governed at the moment it was created. That's a perfectly reasonable stopgap -- but it's a stopgap for a problem that only exists because the underlying workflow generates code first and figures out access control, auditability, and hosting later, if at all.

That sequencing is the actual root cause. Vibe-coding tools are optimized for one thing: getting an idea into working code as fast as possible. That's genuinely valuable, and it's why adoption is heading toward the numbers Gartner is forecasting. But nothing in that workflow asks who else at the company should be able to see this app, what data it should be allowed to touch, or where it's going to live once it's built. Those questions get answered later, by someone else, after the app already exists -- which is exactly the moment Island's product steps in.

What it looks like when governance isn't a separate step

For those companies, it's a sensible way to bring order to something that's already ungoverned, and Eric Lowe's framing -- finally being able to say yes to employee creativity -- is a legitimate win worth having. But the number of vendors it takes to get there is itself the argument: a code generator, a hosting environment, and now a governance layer, stitched together after the fact.
